Issue 26 - 1950s French Pilot

Rate this Entry

In the 1950s French Pilots were issued with watches manufactured to the "Type 20" pattern.
The requirement was for a highly accurate watch, with a 35 hour power reserve and a 'Flyback' chronograph.
This type of chronograph uniquely allows the user to stop, reset and restart the chronograph with a single press of a button.

Case
Polished 35.2mm case, 37.5mm with crown, 42.3mm lug to lug, 9.3mm deep. Ridged bezel edge.
Case back engraved with description of the watch. 30.8mm flat glass. 31.3mm interior aperture.
Dial
31.2mm black dial with white 1/5th second scale at outer edge. Arabic numerals at 5 second intervals. Pale green Arabic hour markers.
Steel, White filled, baton style hours and minutes hands. Slim straight seconds hand.
Lume on minute and hour hands only.
Strap
16mm Tan leatherette strap narrows to 14mm polished buckle.

Again, like the previous issue, the watches this is supposed to represent would have been full chronographs and had sub dials and pushers, the plain dial does not reflect this at all.
Breguet were amongst the many suppliers of the 'Type20' watches, and they still produce a version today.
