The wife and I recently watched "Dracula Untold". Wasn't too bad. Standard historical retelling + gore.

Going with a buddy to see Interstellar tomorrow in Imax (I am hooked on Imax! Fortunate to have one about 12 miles from the house). I go to the theater fairly often, but also stream Netflix and Amazon, and rent from Red Box. If there is a gap there, I buy the DVD or Blu Ray on Amazon or eBay.

Recent likes, A Million Ways To Die In The West. Very funny, and Charlize Thereon adds a nice dynamic. Wanted to see Lucy, missed it at the theater and waiting for it to come out on DVD. Scratch that. Looking it up, I just discovered it is still playing in the theater. Need to get there this week.

Also may see Gone Girl, having looked it up after seeing this thread. Trailer looks good.

Looking forward to The Homesman. Love Westerns, and a fan of Tommy Lee Jones. It opens this week.
    Regards, T Bone

Even a broken watch shows correct time once or twice a day. I ought to know, I have a few!

Lucy was ok. Gone Girl was good. A Million Ways...thoroughly bored me.

Hoping to get to see Interstellar and Imitation Game

I used to be a bit of a film buff....French films at the Swiss Centre cinema in Leicester Sq back in my university days in 80's. Now I am mostly resorting to (pirate) downloading . When I moved here there was a burnt out shell of a cinema, a few years ago a new one opened, but it has been closed for several months for renovations. When open they show a lot of Tyler Perry movies and noisy Michael Bay stuff. The big problem is that cell phone use is incessant throughout the movies and people bring babies and really young kids to everything at any time.

So on my dodgy downloads I did see John Wick, it was ok, slightly better than the Clive Owen Shoot'em up and way better than the assassin nonsense with Anjelina Joile... the one where the knitting machine decides who dies!

LOL, Ghandi was the nail in the coffin. That's hilarious.

Mine was Avatar. I don't recall having been back since.

Anyone likes indie horror, horror/comedy? Toronto after dark film festival seems to have had some cool movies this year. I hope they run on Porto film festival next year.

WARNING! NSFW- the links are to Youtube previews, they have bloody and gory scenes

I go about once or twice a year. There are no good theaters in the city, so it's a whole ordeal for me to go to one now. And they're so expensive. To see a movie with one other person, before concessions, it costs more than buying the damn blu-ray. At least it's an experience, but not so indispensable that I couldn't do without it. Of course, that's the reason why movies all play it safe now; safe blockbusters, even though they can be good movies, are a bigger draw than movies that are more adventurous. Plus, what can I get out of seeing a drama or comedy at a theater that I can't get at home? Sure, the action packed blockbusters are different--something like Guardians of the Galaxy (excellent) can't quite be replicated, outside of a highly sophisticated home theater system.

i remember as a young child the Saturday matinee [ i forget the admission fee ] maybe sixpence! started with a talent contest on stage - prog consisted of cartoon to start , cowboy movie, hop-a-long cassidy or the lone ranger - charlie chaplin etc , then the serial with the inevitable ending of the lady strapped to the train rails with the loco approaching fast [then to 'be continued next week '] and the prog ended with us all having to stand and sing God Save the Queen ! ice cream ladies in the aisles - those were the days -there used to be small privately owned picture houses in most small towns then now its a small mortgage to go to the cinema and probably a good drive if you live rurally - forgive my trip down memory lane
