Edit: a little digging has provided part of the answer. Steinhart USA and Steinhart GmbH are/were not the same.

Steinhart USA, later to become Debaufre, later went out of business, leaving only Steinhart GmbH remaining. Reading between the lines, it appears that the threat of litigation came from Steinhart GmbH.
well gets a bit confusing looking at a thread in the tz they say it was ok to use steinhart everywhere except usa where it stayed as Debaufre I remember at the time there was a big bust up over it on wus ..(you know how they go over their they love a flame war )

Yeah I have been under the assumption that they are totally one in the same as far as pretty much everything except the name as I've read. I'm thinking about selling this one to fund a current Triton. Is there a sales forum here where I could list it?
