Nomos is no stranger to collaboration, but the recent Orion 38 “De Stijl” edition with Ace Jewelers (the first time Nomos have collaborated with the retailer and the first-ever collaboration for Ace Jewelers) may very well be my favorite Nomos have ever done. The watch is based on and named after the Dutch “De Stijl” art and architecture movement that began in 1917, so the project was a natural fit for Amsterdam-based Ace Jewelers who chose to honor the 100th anniversary of the movement’s founding. But even more so, the collaboration feels totally on point for the beloved Glashütte maker, too.By distilling the inspiration into a clean and straightforward dial, the design team at Nomos shows once again why it’s one of the best in the industry. The silver dial features baton markers of various lengths and weights, each one different from the last and a reference to the rectangular forms that defined the De Stijl era. Though symmetry is often preferred on a watch dial, the tension here feels aesthetically balanced.
The watch measures 38mm in diameter and features the same elegant case as others in this series. Powering the watch is Nomos’ in-house Alpha caliber, a hand-cranker based on the iconic Peseux 7001. The watch will be delivered on a black shell cordovan strap.
The Ace Jewelers x Nomos “De Stijl” edition is limited to just 100 units at the price of $2,620. Ace Jewelers ships worldwide, and if you have a preference for an edition number they’ll hook you up. Ace
