Difficult choice. But the Timex wins it for me, what a score at that price. and I don't have anything similar in my collection but would love one!

This one really is tough - two approaches to 70s vintage funk. Much as I remember the days of early LED quartz, I would probably actually wear the Certina, and I would be happy not to change batteries every year (or 10 months...)
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

Oh no - two favourites.
The crispness of the Timex wins. Just.

I've been arguing that vintage quartz is massively underrated for decades. This Timex is a classic example of exactly what I was talking about. Don't get me wrong, I love the Certina, and it's a perfect example of just how far mechanical watches had got before quartz took over the task of actually telling the time. However, while the watches are from exactly the same period, one is the last gasp and the other is the first breath. This is literally one of the very first solid state quartz watches and certainly the first even slightly affordable one. Not to mention that red numerals are cool and the watch looks pretty well brand new. I even like the 'movement'. It's good looking, historically significant and just plain cool.
I seem to be making a habit of voting against my own watch, but this one is a no brainer for me.

The Timex stirs up all sorts of nostalgic feelings in me and was chuffed to bits when it lit up for the first time; even more so when I could actually set it to correct time & date.
The Certina was one of my top 3 from the offset (the other 2 just went head-to-head in the other round), not least because Matt turned it from a rather sorry looking thing into a perfectly presentable & wearable little watch. I appreciate a bit of applied TLC to save these little mechanical wonders that intrigue us, so of course my vote goes to the Certina.
I've not voted for my own entry yet (in any of the other comps. either) and I'm not about to start now - That's just not cricket.
Some people have opinions - The rest of us have taste.

That distinction may belong to the Roamer Microquartz, according to Pieter Doensen's survey of early quartz watches.
