Thread: The indecisive watch buyers' thread

The best laid plans and some clarity:

I love dress watches. I greatly prefer them over any other style of watch. How can I not have a VC dress watch?! I am getting a Traditionnelle (unless VC release a decent 36mm Patrimony). This is the front runner:

My other dress watches have a light dial, having a darker dial will be a perfect fit.

Oh, as for best laid plans. That a-hole @vkalia keeps mentioning I should get a Rolex. Just to keep him happy (and he is right), will scratch the itch I have about a high-end sports watch and I actually agree with Raza that the dial is nicer than the Overseas one, I will also be getting this:

The Rolex will be bought in April next year, a VC Traditionnelle in April 2020. Called the AD (carries both Rolex and VC) discussed price on both (well percentage off) and am very happy.

That will mean my collection will include 2 Lange (the greatest of them all), Omega, GS, Patek, VC, and Rolex. Lucky seven.

    That's a killer 7.

In your shoes I would have gotten one higher end sports watch to pair with the Rolex, but I am a generalist re collecting whereas you are more of a specialist.

You do realize that no one makes a 7 watch box, right?

I do not keep my watches all together. All but one or two are always in a bank vault. So no worries on the watch box.

The way I see it is the Rolex pairs with the GS (and if we are talking about price GS is the more expensive watch) and the Omega as my general around the house watches, but also look good if I am dressed up.

The Saxonia, Calatrava, and Traditionnelle are my holy trinity of dress watches.

And the Up/Down is the one to rule them all (if we are talking about price). It also is a dress watch and a casual watch. Looks equally as good when I am wearing a t-shirt and jeans and when I am wearing a suit. Of course I also wear the Saxonia and Calatrava with casual and formal clothes. The Up/Down is also my only watch with Arabic numerals.

So while I have not and will not buy with a goal in mind it will end up being the perfect collection.

    Damn, foiled.

But yeah, that structure makes a lot of sense. I am still holding out hope you get to 10.

They actually had the diamond encrusted one for sale, and I tried it out mainly for the size. And it looks great. Very interested in it, fo sho.

Sub dial placement doesn't bother me - in fact, I have liked it from the start. But my preferences can best be described as "mostly classical styling but with a small twist or two". This fits that.

I like/am interested in the smaller 38mm GP Laureato but this VC is definitely giving me pause, sigh . . . .

Now that you have an AP, the Overseas would be a better fit, IMO - at least the way I approach collections. But you don't have an issue with similarity in styles, so the only answer is "both".

TJMike it looks like you're only just getting going, and at a high level too. So even though things may taper off after a while, I can see you at least nudging a second watch box. I was only curtailed by a rather robust wife and the arrival of my first child otherwise I'd probably be on my second watch box by now.

Good choice on the Rolex BTW. IMHO their best pieces. I'm holding out and umming and aaahing about the platinum Daytona. A fair bit more umming and aaahing required there obviously.

I saw the platinum Daytona a few weeks back; I say go for it.

When it comes to watches I have been dancing with Mr. Brownstone. Time to wean myself off over the next couple of years before going cold turkey.
