Among WIS, the steel models may be popular, but the Day Date is very much an iconic Rolex model. Probably THE iconic model in most parts of the world. And IIII works better than IV at that location. That's one design element the Swiss managed to get right

Interesting thoughts here
Definitely differences between WIS and civilian perceptions of Rolex.
And they’ve changed with time
It used to be more about the tech, particularly the Oyster case when other people weren’t making deep water watches so much
As a child of the 70s, I loved the print ads about keeping accurate time in extreme, demanding conditions: under the sea, in high tech aviation, in motor sport
So for me the quintessential Rolex is
(hence my Tudor Oyster Prince :-)
It's the final countdown! PM me before they're all gone!

Now we're talking. The yg/black is great. Have a friend with an old DD (18238) with an Onyx-dial.. Yellow gold and black just works perfectly
Imo though a DD should have a fluted bezel

The YG/Black is the leading one if I go for the DD. Unsure about the fluted bezel. We will see.
Oh, congratulations on your new Rolex!

The smooth bezel makes it too sporty for me (Raza will laugh...).
and thanks.
I'm too impulsive to post my watch buying thoughts in this thread. See, want, check finances, buy... (well not quite...). Maybe I should start thinking about "the one to rule them all" as well....

Blue dial, from those. Definitely.
Although Romans and batons? And still IIII?

I agree that the gold Day Date is the iconic Rolex model—if you’re smuggling cocaine into Miami using cigarette boats in the 1980s.

No, I totally get it. I’m not laughing at all. Really. I mean it.
