There have been misaligned Rolex bezels too. On the other hand, from what I have read, they have been swiftly rectified - sometimes while you wait, if you live close enough to a service centre.
I don’t buy watches with rotating bezels any more - I can convince myself that they’re all misaligned.

The name "Grand Seiko" just doesn't do it for me. There's a reason why Toyota didn't go with "Grand Toyota" but chose something completely different like "Lexus".
And yes I am that shallow

Not shallow. We're buying luxury goods - brand name etc is important

Don’t get me wrong, I like GS and in fact I was one of the people convincing Toppers to carry the line. If you stay in the base automatic line they (like my cream dialed GMT) are very hard to beat in many aspects. Durability of case and bracelet finish is where they just don’t work for me. I think the GS Ti SD diver is an amazing watch, but it’s finish marks so easy versus a identically price SUb, GMT II, Tudor Pelagos, or even a Seiko TI SD 600MM GMT. My SS GS GMT did fair better but its no Rolex in this aspect.

Well, based just on this, I would take the Seiko over the Rolex

No the over all finish process.

Huge Seiko fanboy here, too (Monster, SKX007, SARB033, Lord Marvel 36000, 6139 Pogue-like, multiple 5s...).
Also a realist. This dropped GS down a notch for me, and made me realize that they are not the superior-to-Rolex-for-less-money that the forums led me to believe:
You cannot justifiably compare GS to Rolex with this finishing level. No bevels, not even CNC, no polishing on the countersinks, and the main plate (visible under the balance wheel) is unfinished! There are corners cut and there's a reason it's cheaper. The Rolex is decorated on the dial side:
Heck a Top 2824 has the area under the balance wheel pearled:

Stop being so objective Dimman - I'd prefer opinions based on the badge alone please.
