It’s a dog’s life
First watch in Space
Yes, we know it was Gagarin’s issue Shturmanskie blah blah..
But no, it was a Pobeda, worn by a dog!

Chernushka (‘Blackie’)
(pics from the link)
The watch’s owner, researcher Dr Abraham Genin, had some explaining to do when Blackie survived the mission with Genin’s watch on his leg :-)
(This tickled me so much I had to post a link. Enjoy!)

Blackie was/is one of my forthcoming ‘Five Things’. It’s a great story - partly because it’s so far removed from the usual brouhaha of historic space watches.

Sorry to steal your story, Alan!
Yes, that’s what I love about this - not only a very ordinary watch, but a very non-glamorous space traveller :-)
Even Omega’s marketing department would struggle:
‘Buy our space watch and look like a.. err, dog’

I bought a bunch of those when I was doing the 'Man from Uncle' thing and there are two almost identical looking versions. There's the standard pressback version and then there's a rather nice screwback:
Which is quite different from the usual:
