Glad you joined the threat, Chico. Your experience is most welcome. As far as I'm concerned, I had to deal with two watches based on the ST-19 and both failed within months of very light use. This movement became a deal breaker. I kept my mouth shut, because two samples are statistically irrelevant. But will I buy another? No.
I don't like the functionality available from the VK64 - that 24H sub dial is as useless as a sub dial can be - however, I can fully understand why it is chosen by a variety of brands and that's fine.
I haven’t had any issues with the ST-19 chronos that I personally have owned but I can totally understand why you wouldn’t buy one again.
Yeah that 24hr subdial is not the best choice, a running seconds would have made the movement a killer choice for anyone looking to produce a bi compax chrono!
Why on earth couldn’t they make the sub dials just a couple (maybe even just 1mm) of mm smaller diameter !!..... it ruins it (for me) that they cut into the main numerals.
I’ve had the ST 19 in both Eddie’s and the Chinese Air Force version. In both cases, I have found that the click spring (that keeps the watch wound) is incredibly fragile. The first time I thought was bad luck, but by the third, over two watches... My eventual solution was snapping the right length off an old pocket watch mainspring. Apart from that, I’ve had no problems and actually have a complete spare movement due to surprisingly enthusiastic Chinese warranty support. The Russian equivalent appears entirely unbreakable in comparison. I’m surprised that these haven’t been used by some enterprising microbrand at some point as I assume they’d be cheap enough.
I think the big one for me would be weight. I found the Prs 5 strangely light and didn’t keep it. I’d be interested to hear if this has a bit of heft to it, although I also don’t like the idea of no second hand.
I had a watch with an ST-19. Within a few days, the movement broke. After that, I was done. Rather have the mechaquartz than that.
It’s a common story. There’s nothing wrong with the design as the Venus has a rock solid reputation. A bit more effort on QC and probably metallurgy would change everything.
do we know what they use in the mwc raf chrono mech as still wonder if an affordable alternative unless to do with quantity sure the mwc one I got has the right dial set up
