    SeaGull Showcase

As Ric already started a Beijing thread, I though SeaGull deserved their own thread. I own quite a few of them, both vintage and new, and I will start posting some here.

One of my early SeaGull Acquisitions was the M177s. I bought it directly from SeaGull USA when the company just had started, and had it delivered to my hotel room during a business trip. I thought it was a very classy looking watch, not knowing back then there was also a JLC out there looking quite alike
Still, I think it's one of the best looking watches they have made:

The first SeaGull I bought was the watch that got me interested in mechanical watches. I had no clue about the company, or where it was made. I even bought it at an electronics store (Conrad)

I have to confess I don't where it anymore, but I will never get rid of it!

    Regards,

    Martin

Now for some more SeaGulls, the ST5's. These vintage SeaGulls come in two shapes. A standard form:

    And a cushion shaped case:

They come in all kinds of dial colors:

The older versions where branded as DongFeng, which means East Wind, but when SeaGull started exporting, the name was deemed too communistic.

And there were also lower grade versions sold under the name LanHua:

But they all have one thing in common, the beautiful ST5 movement:

Us collectors love these ST5's so much, that we had a project watch made around refurbished movements:

    Regards,

    Martin

    Let's start with a curveball:

You're right, the watch is not a SeaGull, but a Fortis Flieger. The dog, however, is: Paulien of Seagull Kennels in Lexington, TX. Paulien turned 13 last Friday and she has grown a wee bit in those years:

I do blame Martin for getting me interested in Chinese watches and my ever-growing collection of SeaGulls.
The very first Seagull in my watch-box is the infamous 1963 Reissue:

2011 - 2014 WUS CMW Project watches, all powered by SeaGull movements, aside, the next Seagulls to find their way to my collection are the WUYI LE and 55th Anniversary watch:

Shortly after, the first vintage pieces started showing up, all Seagull and Dong Feng ST5's:

Now some models from the 80ties. Like many brands SeaGull started to look around at some popular models. They used their ST6 movement to power these watches. To be honest, these old ST6's have one of the smoothest sweep seconds I have in my collection.

Another piece from the early 80ties you don't see that often is a SeaGull Quartz. It has an ESA 536.121 movement that is branded as SeaGull:

Sold on, now, due to lack of wear, but this is the sweet Sea-Gull 1963 Reissue, that I bought directly from Thomas himself.

I was pleased with this pickie at the time 'cos it properly captured the dial colour.

Also sold on due to lack of wear, is this Sea-Gull Dragon King. I popped it on this black leather strap from the beginning, and for some reason this helped to highlight the blue outer chapter ring.
