Have you ever tried a rangefinder? The learning curve is steeper than on a SLR, but the experience is a lot more rewarding! If not a rangefinder, at least a mirrorless. For digital I moved for the Fuji X100, and I love the really quiet shutter, and the image quality, of course!

The beauty of culture and language affords you many names for a cultural celebration going back thousands of years. Why not celebrate the diversity of its origins?
I'll take any of the above you mention, just not Xmas. That diversity you speak of applies to all. To take the word Christmas and shorten it to Xmas takes that right out for me personally.
