Nice. But now you need more watches.

So, did you order the GS?

You lie! You have at least one G-Shock.

(We'll see how long this minimal line-up can last...)
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

I realise this word has UK-specific connotations but it's the first that came to mind: austere. A bit more colour than the red date wheel and GMT hand mightn't go astray!

GS gestation is coming along nicely - probably in the third trimester.

I’m pretty sure of the model but need to check my choice at a dealer. That won’t happen for a few weeks, and I still need to be sure of doing it at all.

In the meantime I’ll just enjoy the Power of Three while a decision forms.

I used to be one of the few to count G-Shocks, but now comply with standard IWL practice.

I also have the IWL chronograph and my deceased friend’s Memovox - also not counted (and not worn). I suppose I could pass the IWL watch on, but hadn’t thought about that until now.

How long will the minimal line-up last? I know better than to predict.

I had thought of losing the Hawkinge too, but it refused to leave home.

Aha! You’re spot on, but it’s no oversight.

Let’s say I already have the GS I’m thinking of buying. My main three are monotone and conservative. I have an Explorer II rather than a standard-issue Submariner, but that’s the only departure from mainstream luxury conformity. My watches would be unremarkable in business-class lounges in London or Tokyo. As it happens, I’m far from being a person who would ever have travelled business-class. I’m a relative oik with a watch hobby - who ended up with three conventional watches after the watch hobby watches failed to stay the course.

Nobody will make much of the Hawkinge either. It probably looks like something I inherited, or it could be my first good watch from forty years ago.

    Look at me, I’m invisible.

The Hawkinge IS your home. How could it get any closer than to share your wrist sometimes? It's OK to be a tad sentimental. Your aspirations to working class puritanical anonymous austerity are fooling nobody. Enjoy your subtle hint of retirement luxury. You deserve it.

Wow. If you told me it'd be those three, I'd never have predicted that I'd have a hard time taking my eyes off the.....Hawkinge! Great collection, Alan.
