What a great looking watch! The overall appearance re: "crispness" of the dial, precision machining of the case, bezel and crown...you can tell that this was so well cared for in its manufacture. As others have said, the parts, as well done as they are, create an outstanding sum of the whole.

    Congratulations, Henry!

Terrific review and photography! I've been drooling over your Longines ever since you got it, and that review is NOT helping my willpower at all! Thanks for the informative post, Henry.

I hate that watch... (hey, my first time of using this emoticon!)

42mm is also my magic number, plus the cushion case and black dial... your excellent review and pictorial make me want one so bad.. you just show justice to its beauty.. no wonder it is your current king of wrist time..

thank you very much Henry! thank you for your 'torture'!..

Congrats! Its a really beautiful looking watch (as are so many Longines Heritage pieces)!

For me personally I'm in the no date camp for this one. I can accept it in the Heritage chronos with a bicompax layout and date at 6 but the intersection with the seconds dial bothers me. But so long as you're ok with it thats what matter right? Enjoy it in the best of health.

Having already tried on the Heritage 1935 I guess our opinions are very similar. I admit that the fixed bezel irritated me a bit and the date, well, I still can't understand why Longines insists... On the other hand, the brand success suggests that they know what they're doing. So, what can I say?!

The hands are period correct and I actually like them.

Overall, I like the watch; it's a fine design and - despite the other brands with similar aesthetics - this Longines is quite distinct wihout the need for any (unwelcome) extra extravaganza.

Thanks again for the review and enjoy your new Longines, Henry.

    Cheers,

When, in the WRUW thread just before I read your review, I said this:

"Great pictures, as always. You know, the interesting thing about this watch for me is that it has a number of features/characteristics I'm not particularly fond of on their own ("mosquito" hour hand, cushion case, style of Arabic numbers, bezel design, and yet, when they are all put together on this watch, I think it's beautiful. Can't explain it, the watch just works for me holistically. Go figure. "

All in all, very nice, and a watch with character.
Thanks guys. I do agree that aesthetically it would be better without a date. I thought it would kill the watch for me, but when I put it on it didn't bother me at all. Perhaps part of it is that despite the 42 (or 41) mm case the date is more or less where it should be. If it were like so many big modern watches with the date window too close to the centre of the watch it would have been an entirely different thing.

mlcor: I think I wrote in the WRUW thread that the Deck Watch has even more things I dislike intensely and yet it is one of my favourite watches of all. Funny how that happens.

    Thanks R.

I tend to agree that they might be somewhat undervalued. It's kind of hard to compare it with the Diamaster I tried. That is Si3N4 TiN ceramic and is just so different, but other than that watch the Longines stood up well compared to everything else I tried on. And of course it looked so much better on my wrist than any of the others.

    Lovely watch, Henry!
Thanks Geoff. Most of my watches do have date windows and many day/date. I find them essential during the week, but on the weekend I like to go simpler.
