Thanks, tempocalypse! I enjoyed KSR's Mars books, but clearly didn't have my WIS senses alert when reading them :-)
That would appear to be a pragmatic solution for 2 planets with similar day lengths, 39 minutes being a nice stretch of time to fill with a little something :-)
It's the final countdown! PM me before they're all gone!

    How could I forget?

There's a Swedish watch that's been to space as well. The Halda Space Discovery worn by Christer Fuglesang (only swede in space) in 2009.

Interchangeable watch heads. One mechanical (Svend Andersen H1920-SA mvmt according to link) and one digital (developed by Halda). The digital module contains a triaxial accelerometer among other things.

    Infinity & beyond: space watches!

    Cheers, Sherry!
This thread has blossomed in such a cool way, and I'm hoping we can gather yet more celebration and technology from space exploration, not to mention the heavenly bodies themselves
Perhaps skywatch can treat us to some closeups of his Astrodea?
Anyone own a Bulova Astronaut or a Spaceview?
    Keep em coming, folks!

    Infinity & beyond: space watches!

Talking of the Accutron, I hadn't realised the extent of the technological link with the US space program: Accutron timing mechanisms were used in 46 space missions
    More here

Oh, and there's an Accutron timer among instruments in the Sea of Tranquillity set up by Apollo 11 astronauts

Rings a bell about a Russian watch on the moon - 'Strela! Could you post that on this thread too? Ta!'

Thanks, m! And for the Halda
I wonder how many nations have sent their own watches up with their astronauts/ cosmonauts?
I recall a Czech took along a Prim, but couldn't find a link earlier

I'm guessing there would be a few. Can't think of better marketing (as is evident by omega)

General Hermaszewski of Poland wore this in 70s

Made in Poland with Sanyo module.

G.gerlach is bringing out a reissue (kosmonauta). Where I read about it.
