    Another Manhattan restoration

Rado's Manhattan models have quite a following among collectors but I always failed to see the appeal. I decided, however, that if I was serious about my collection then I should get one so I recently picked up this Manhattan V.

As you can see, it was in terrible cosmetic condition, although it was running and keeping time.
I took it apart to see the extent of the gunk, the construction makes a project like this fairly simple.

The dial is covered in gunk from the failed rubber gasket.

I sanded and rebrushed the case, although there was one deep sent that I couldn't remove.

With the crystal and dial cleaned and the original 7 row NSA bracelet run through the ultrasonic cleaner it turned out pretty well.

That is a vast improvement Scott. Did you try the lighter fluid on the dial?

Not yet but this watch is still far from finished.

They were actually available in both stainless and gold plate.

Here is a Manhattan DeLuxe, also known as the Manhattan V, in gp. I no longer own it.

Here is a mid-size Manhattan, before a clean up, that belongs to my wife

And here is a gp Manhattan Special Edition ( the crystal markered versions were very limited production) that I still own

Rado did make far fewer gp Manhattans than steel.
