This new Sony e-ink watch is rather clever

Certainly the first watch I'm aware of with a strap that changes its own appearance.

That's quite neat. But I think this is going to kill the wristwatch:

I'd not seen that before. Neat, although I'm not sure how practical it would be in actual use

True, but give it a decade. That will be old news.

They don't have a working prototype of either the app or the bracelet, I'm skeptical.

Agreed, I was somewhat interested until I saw that it is really vaporware. When I was reading about it (on one of the blogs) the reader comments gave the impression that this company has yet to deliver on some of their other pie in the sky ideas. Though I don't know anything about them other than what I read I wondered at the time if they might be grabbing patents and looking for either an angel or some company to buy the idea.

In the end I think it may just be a niche product since the majority of "smart wrist appliance" people will not be from the "I don't want to give up my real watch" set.

That's absolutely my problem with smart watches. I had a Pebble (which, frankly, worked perfectly) but I couldn’t wear it and a real watch (I tried - 2 on one wrist and one on each)
What I'm after at the moment is a smart wristband I can wear ony right wrist. The Razer Nabu seems the pick of the bunch at the moment
