Trying to do it yourself or finding a company to do it for you ?

If you're in a big enough town there will usually be a plating service that can do stuff like chrome and gold. If you have custom jewelers they may to some themselves, usually rhodium for going over white gold. But often custom jewelers farm out plating and casting to specialist companies.
The big thing with plating though isn't the plating, it's the base polishing. Most of the work is the prep before the actual plating, but an experienced plater is still needed to manage the job, proper cleaning, different concentrations, alloys, what anode types, temperature, amperage, etc...
