I know that on an international forum, a lot of you won't recognize the name Dean Smith. Here in North Carolina, though, he is a legend, as much for being a humanitarian as a coach.

For those of you who do watch US college basketball, you have this man to thank for the shot clock. He didn't invent the Four Corners offense, but he perfected it to the point that he changed the game forever.

He coached so many fantastic players, who went on to have storied careers. Jokingly, he's referred to as the only man to ever hold Michael Jordan to 13 points in a game. :laughing:
