Replacing a tired dial
I've a Seiko from 1961 which has a simple but pretty silver sunburst dial. It's badly chipped in two places and I think it's continually crumbling away, making everything else dirty. The case isn't exactly mint, and the whole thing cost a minimal amount. Without throwing good money after bad, any suggestions for what my options are?
Stopping the rot is more important to me than removing the blemishes.

If it were me, I'd remove the dial, gently clean it so as to not remove any more finish. Then I'd coat it in a water based or non reactive high gloss clear coat to stabilise it.
