6498 is too big for the 38mm case. Fitting diameter is 37.2mm.

Best fitting small second option to fill space would be a Vaucher VMF 5401 at 30mm nominal diameter. However it costs about 4-5x as much as the 7001.

Enlightening, thanks! I guess Fears needed the cheaper option for their pricing/profit formula . . . I do like Rick's suggestion that something around the backside bezel area (even just words) would make for a better look . . .

Thanks guys! Couldn’t have said it better myself. GS makes really great watches, but this one has always been near the top for me. Simple, elegant and timeless dial, a well proportioned case and a beautifully finished movement. It reminds me of vintage calatravas.
