Thread: Felt like a build today.

    Felt like a build today.

    Hey Cats,

Thought I'd project today. Some of you may remember this watch build from back in the day especially if you're a former WUS member.

This is an old Cyma pocket watch movement and dial. The movement is made by Tavannes.

Took the watch apart and away I went.

    Started with disassembly

I then polished the case first.

Decided to take it from the driver style I made back then and going conventional by relocating the crown/stem location.

I clear coated the case to hopefully hold the tone of the case which has a nice gun metal look.

All the while between steps I had been coating the dial with gloss white using a rain down effect to create a speckled/textured finish to create what I'm calling a ghost dial

Next I installed the spacer ring with its expansion wedge into the case.

Bent the spring bar to accommodate the new crown position to clear the strap.

Assembled the dial, hands, movement and installed it into the case.

Strap installed and onto the wrist.

Pretty stark in contrast that's for sure. I'm not sure if I'm happy with it but it did turn out like I expected it would.

That's fantastic! Were you nervous spraying the dial?

In fact I was pretty creeped out because I was worried it would fail and it did after the second coat, a cat hair drifted onto it when it was wet! I had to clean the dial of paint and start over. It took a total of 16 passes for it to come up to where I wanted it, the rain down method I used takes a long time and wastes a lot of paint.

I envy your talents. That movement is exquisite!
Too many watches, not enough wrists.
