Goodness, that's a beautiful watch. They've totally captured the 70's diver vibe. Congrats, HK!

    Indeed it is right purty!

Your photos always make the watches drool-worthy. That is why you can me such a dangerous enabler, Henry!

As always great pictures. You probably have covered this elsewhere that I missed, but the symbol above the word RADO seems to spin. What is it for? I'm also trying to recall, but this might be the only Swatch group product with a cyclops?
    Cheers,

    Michael

Tell everyone you saw it on IWL!

Thank you Sherry, they did didn't they? The lugless oval Diastar shaped case works a treat on it.

Thank you Michael. You may well be right about the cyclops. I can't think of another.

The anchor does spin freely. Rado patented the mechanism in the late 1950s, I believe, and introduced it in 1962 with the release of the first Diastar. In the Rado world it means the watch is an automatic. There are only a very few exceptions to that rule. There is a quartz Golden Horse from around 2007 for the Japanese market that has a rotating anchor and my Centrix is an automatic without an anchor at all. Initially Rado claimed it was a service indicator: when the anchor seized it was time to service the movement. In truth the two things are completely independent of each other. It is mostly a clever and entertaining gimmick.

That's a great watch Henry and excellent photos as usual.

The rubber Rado diver's strap I fitted to my XL Chrono also has a stainless steel deployant. My thoughts were that it may give the catch more heft, to help balance the watch on the wrist, given that the rubber is so much lighter than the bracelet.

I find the rubber more comfortable, probably because the rubber Rado is very pliable, especially compared to the thinner band on my Seastar. That band is stiffer and causes the watch to spring up away from the wrist and flop about a bit. Making it tighter just causes the embossed 'T' pattern to bite into the wrist. Altogether the Rado is just so much better.

The rubber strap you fitted to your chrono make me think seriously about getting one so I think I will get one for the incoming green Original XL diver.
