    Scary. I'm looking at vintage Rolexes but it would be so easy to franken them it's scary. Okay, the cost is not huge but still a lot of money to write off if I end up with a piece of junk!

    Probably the same way most gray market dealers do; overstock and geographical arbitrage. Authorized dealers want to move stock, so they sell off to a gray market dealer who is then able to discount it and sell it to the end user, often directly. DavidSW is supposedly reputable, but when it comes to Rolex, I'm always wary, because there are so many fakes out there and I don't have the skills to spot the good ones.
