Still non of the new models. What do you think?

The bigger lugs jarred with me at first but I've grown to like them. I like the fact that the watches look a little beefier without actually having to swell up in the same way as those from most of the competition. Let's face it, most of the classic Rolex sports watches now have more than a toe in the Gentleman's Watch category and need to slip beneath a cuff as easily as beneath the waves.

The only Rolex that is still resolutely a tool watch is the Explorer II in my opinion. Its update has, if anything, made it even more focused than its more elegant predecessor.

Had the previous gen Explorer 2 and would not go back to it after owning the new one. To me the Explorer 2 suppose to be a traveling sport watch intended to be highly legible in various conditions. The newer Ex2 delivers this purpose in a much more useful way with bolder hands and even more legible dial all around. The white dial is the purest white I ever seen on any watch. The clasp and bracelet blows away my older Ex2, its really not a contest. There will always the ones that will like the older models which is fine but for my 6+foot 200+ pound frame I'm quite comfortable with the size.

Agree. The newer EP2 is far superior than the previous model.

I have actually grown to prefer the modern watches over the older ones in general and all my older ones are gone. I like all the divers, even my DSSD though I see it as a time and place watch the same as I see my Ploprofs. I like the Milgauss and the GMT II. I like the Exp I but don't like the short hands, I don't care about any DJ or DD. I am at odds with most as I much prefer the 1655 to the 16570 or 216570 and I have pretty much no love for any of the modern Daytonas.

Other than maybe the Sub, I don't find the lugs to be too thick. I think they are perfectly proportioned on my GMTc. The Milgauss has one of the most sublime cases I've handled, and I wouldn't change its proportions at all.

Milgaus is probably an exception for me as I own two.
