I think it’s time I get a couple decent flashlights. Too many times I’ve not had one handy and ended up using my phone, which is just an okay solution, not really great. Are MagLites still good?

Maybe a couple of these, keep one in my bag, one in the couch cushions, etc.

It's 10-year old tech. I don't like the fact that it's fully round (will roll on surfaces) with no attachment points (clip or lanyard hole).

If you're OK with the size and 47 lumen output, I don't see a lot that can go wrong with that choice. Here's a comparison vid with the Olight from my previous post.

Is there a lot of new tech in the light world? I thought basically there was the light bulb and then very little innovation until the LED light came out. I didn’t think about it rolling or not being able to be clipped to anything, though, that’s a good point. I just saw it and though “Oh, that’s a sleek design”.

    I’ll check that out, thanks!

Oh, that reminds me, I bought a pair of these:

One in aluminum, one in brass. I got them for $55 each instead of $75. They should arrive on Monday.

I'm sure there are many peeps here who know more than I do about it, but from a very casual enthusiast point of view, the light tech is one of the quickest changing that I could observe. From car battery-sized throwers with incandescent light bulbs not that long ago to pocket LED lights powered from single cells that do their job better now. Of course, the 200 lumens like in that Maglite should be sufficient for any casual use, but if you're like me and like to shop around for the best tech-quality-price combo, you might want to do your research before you commit to buy.

Never seen those, way cool. They're described as 'weather-resistant', well, that unsealed USB-C port under the leather strap doesn't inspire too much confidence in that regard, but again, casual users don't carry torches in pouring rain for long miles.
