People spend as much if not more on a fountain pen and use it. . But if you bought it as a collector’s piece, most likely not.

I could be wrong, but the F701 is a retractable ball point. I figured he meant that the mechanism failed. Strela?

Lamy Logo would not retract, locked out. Zebra should be here today, perhaps.

I did some inadvertent quality testing on one of these. It passed.
It's fairly heavy, metal body. Feels good. I have it inked with Diamine Night Sky shimmering ink and it hasn't even clogged yet. Shocked at the results.
(And that $4.76 was SHIPPED from China to Canada. Insane.)

Since it seems like we are talking about the low cost alternatives, one of the better deals I have found on fountain pens that have had their nibs tweaked (cheaky?) is from MrPen out of the UK. Especially the Italix line. I have one of his Parson's Essential and it is very well made. And the price includes ordering from a large variety of nibs. Well worth a look. A friend of mine ordered an Italix Churchman's Prescriptor and is very pleased with it.

In the dirt cheap department, I have had good luck with the Hero 329 and the Jinhao 51a. The Amazon Basic fountain pen has also been solid at $9.99 in the US. Half a step up, I really like the Platinum Prefounte — it seems like it would just be a glorified Preppy, but it just feels more substantial.
