Omega Ploprof - Is it iconic?

Discussions abound on this watch, comparisons to the Rolex DSSD, designed with input from Jacques Cousteau, prices got so high for preowned original models from the early 1970's that Omega re-released the watch recently priced at several thousand less than the DSSD ($9,200 vs $14,000 - staggering pricing for three hand divers).

    Is this watch iconic?

It's a unique, 'niche' piece.... Not sure I'd call it iconic though. But then, my tastes are fairly conservative.

I'd call it iconic, it's styling/depth rating/locking bezel...it changed the way divers were built & designed...a true diving watch developed for the rigors of deep sea adventure, not desk diving.

I think so. They are serious divers, but so is DSSD. I would love to have one in my collection!

Iconic, yes - but I'd be more likely to marry a horse than want one myself.

Save yourself for a proper mate and I shall get one of these for myself.

I could look it up, but why's it called a ploprof ?

I get the prof bit obviously.

....and how do you pronounce it ?

I like it (in the 1st two pictures at least), seen it before , but not sure if iconic.. just pretty left field and ummmm ...nice because of that (for me)

    Google is your friend

I have the Baby Ploprof, and love it...no it's not called "baby" because it's smaller (once again, Google is your friend)

I'm refusing to google it cos one of you kind sirs is going to give a more interesting rendition of the mystery...... hopefully.
I can't see any clue from yours why that's also called a plo

Seamaster Professional 600, the so-called “Ploprof” (the first letters of plongeur professionnel – the French words meaning “professional divers”) and it was one of the most rugged, robust and seaworthy divers’ wristwatches ever manufactured.

Now you're on your own with the "baby" Ploprof
