Thoughts on the 50th Anniversary Seiko Divers?

2015 marks the 50th anniversary of Seiko dive watches. Two new LE Prospex models were announced a few months ago but should be on the market this month.

SBDX012 - Nice throwback to the 6159, though the gold accents don't do much for me. 1,000 pieces available at a price of 280,000 yen ($2,300).

    Original 6159 300m diver:

I really like the SBDC027, especially the updated bezel font which is one of the big complaints people have with the original Sumo. 2000 pieces available at a price of 80,000 yen ($650)

I personally like the gold accents, and the case is to-die-fer.
And I am sure it;s a respectable performer as a tool watch.

    That said,...
I find the dial and the hands very objectionable, as I do with ALL Seikos of that design.
They're neither here nor there. No character whatsoever.
What is it? A submariner dial? They sure did a good job of botching it, making almost NO distinction between the circular dots and the rectangular cardinal points at 6 and 9 .
And the name: Why so big?

As with a hundred other Seikos, I would mod it immediately.
It's not like I love modding - but Seiko force me to do it. But no way I am paying that kind of $ and doing more work. Dammit.

I like the gold accents, and the dial/hand configuration just seems to be Seiko's style...so I can live with it. I'd like to see them down size their better pieces, getting too big. I understand the diver/tool size, but it's unwearable for many.

I had this very rare JDM model for a while, but the 2 tone bracelet felt too blingy for my tastes.

Meh. I like the first one, but its a bit too pricey.

The second one does nothing for me.

    Hmm, that's a nice looking piece - I would've modded it though.
I have a few with a white chapter ring + either a black or blue dial, and it pops the dial nicely.
Green would look nice too on that one.

I love the sweep on the Marinemaster, always have since the first time I saw it. I was ambivalent about the other hands until I owned an MM300 and saw with a loupe how well they were finished. The beveled edges give them some real character.

I agree, very subtle quality...and glow like a torch
