Well I was going to wear a watch I had not worn in a while a mechanical one. so wound it last night set the time and put it on now I have notice this morning it's running five minutes slow so this is no big deal really that can be correct or left depend on mood haha

but my thought is if it has regulated it self to five minutes slow if I was to set it five minutes fast the first time I was to use it ... you with me so far good good well would it then lose five minutes and then run to the correct time as it has lose the five minutes ?

or would it still lose the five minutes any way ?

oh and this is the watch that got it started a Russian Raketa

and my second thought is that I have put it here because once the question is answer I can see it going of on to some wild tangent in to the realms of what'a time and is time relative haha and what better place then here to have the thread

Depends, I guess: if it is losing 5 minutes per day then you set it 5 minutes fast and it'll be on time on day 1 then 5 minutes slow again on day 2. So regulate it until it's back on and you'll be fine.

What is time? Indeed. This year is a leap second year so...

so basic it's down to how fast the balance wheel spins so for example it spin at say a half a minute not the regulated minute it will always lose time so time has nothing to do with it it's all down to speed and the regulator and it regulating it..... hence it's name hmmm simple when you say it that way or is it .......

true I had one were it would run slow if left lying on it's back .. fast if you left it on it's front but... put it on a stand worked fine but it was over 50 years old so think it's allowed to get a bit stroppy haha

Let it break in for awhile, so to speak, to settle.

I tend to find that if I haven't worn a watch for a while then it tends to run slow for a while.
I set it to the right time every hour or so and then it will settle down to running fairly accurately.
In other words, let it settle down before adjusting it as you may be worrying unnecessarily.
