    Seiko 7a38-702a project

Got this for pizza money from a Hong Kong seller as non working. Asked for movement pics but he said he had none. Had tried battery but no life.

Decided to take a punt anyway as it's a 7a38

    First impressions were quite good.

Then I opened it up to try a new battery

Took the top plate off to take a look at the circuit block

Started to look around for either a donor or even a circuit block. None at all

Then I posted my anger and disappointment on Wristsushi where a very generous member offered a working donor

It has made its way from NJ USA in 3 days and has arrived at Heathrow. Now the wait starts.

Once here, quick movement swap and a really deep clean and I'll have my first 7a38 (next a 7a28 )

Should be a fun small project.

Wonder what can be done about that bezel? Polished and replated? I used to have a home plating kit in a tub.

I remember having a stepper motor chrono in the 80's/90's and just loved how they tracked back to home when reset

Better than the 7txx movements that use plastic.

7a28 would be even better as they were a milestone in watch history.

Just searched for what I used to have.

Medallion liquid 24k gold plating solution $35

Can't find a UK seller yet.
In the meantime, sent a quote request to a gold plating company. Let's see what huge number they come up with

I used to to know a guy couple of decades ago ..... Mr Gent , and he was a right gent too .... for nothing he plated a lovely silver antique table clock for my now deceased stepfather.

The company was one of those companies just hanging on on the outskirts of H&S
I guess Mr Gent is gone now too.
