Maybe it's just a simple mysthake as they usually close with a final post 'explaining', not that they have to.

May one presume that if a thread has been closed silently and with no apparent need then an accident has happened. If so, what's the best way of querying it?

personally I would go via a p.m to a mod route myself. they are nice people really well so they tell us haha but yeah think it would be the best route ?
