Smile ** MORE FROM THE BOX **

It's that time again, I have a few more watches that I have in my possession you may or may not find interesting. This time I have done a little research but as always any info or comments (good or bad) and corrections are most welcome. Hope you enjoy.
First off is a couple of Bentima ‘s . From the limited info I could find it seems that they started off as a British company making clocks and around ww2 stated using a few Swiss movements and became the importer and agents for Oris. They seem to have been registered as a Swiss company in 1948 and soon were making Swiss made watches under their own name, usually ‘Bentima star’ and the higher end Bentima watches were sometimes assembled with an Oris cal.92 movement or even by Edox with an AS1951 movement .
They continued to make mechanical Swiss made watches into the 1960’s including some pocket watches as well. The name continues now and the brand name is used by Acctim.
(Some extracts above borrowed from Always”watching” Moon Phase . Thank you.)

So the first is a ‘ Bentima star ‘ it has a 15 jewel movement I assume made by Precimax watch co and as far as I can work out looks like a Precimax 400 from about 1955 (although I could only find 17 jewel movements ) The hands move and it seems to wind but I think the main spring is broken. It’s vital statistics are 34mm dia (36mm with crown) , 45mm lug to lug , 9mm thick (including 4 of domed acrylic crystal ) and 16mm lug width . The back is s/s but the body is chrome plating.

Hi again , the next Bentima is I think a lot older . As you can see the case has seen better days although I think I saw one on the bay recently. The dial says Bentima with Shockproof underneath , the cathedral type hands I think have some lumen on them although this has long stopped . The hands are working and it does wind but not working. As you can see it say’s cal.91T1 on the movement and if I’m not mistaken the Oris logo . The advert for the case I mentioned said ww2 but I’m not sure. The movement seems to be brass and I can’t see any jewels? I must admit I have not seen one like this before. It’s vitals’ are 32mm dia ( 34mm with crown) , 38mm lug to lug , and 10mm thick . The case is a very delicate tin that splits in two pieces and the movement is not fixed, it seems the crown stem holds it in place with the lug’s being part of the top half with the (polycarbonate?) crystal. The dial seems to be in quiet good condition.
As always with these watches I have I would like to have them back to working condition but a lot depends on cost and finding the right person to do it. So now for some pic’s

Well hello again , next up is a bit of an oddball (to me). There are no markings anywhere apart from the silver case and that is the 925 silver mark and an oval with D&R in it and the serial no 2000 with a 1 underneath, although I have just found what looks like a watchmakers mark that say’s I d i y 21 and underneath 386 26 near the hinge. The dial I think is made of porcelain and has a red 12 with what were blued hands and nice gold minute markers. It must have looked great when new. So the vital measurements are 27mm dia (30mm with crown) , lug to lug 33mm , and 8mm thick lug width is 10mm. As you can imagine it is a bit seized up although I think may be repairable , also you have to remember that all these particular watches have been in a toolbox outside for several years .
    More to come. DW.

I know what you mean although given its size and the silver case i would not think it has seen many trenches . Mind you i'm normally wrong so my wife says . DW.

So the last one for today is a lovely rectangle watch . There are a lot of details I like about this watch, the uncluttered dial with a light guilloche style finish the deep blue hands and simple numbers. The details of this one are a hinged 9k gold case that opens at the bottom of the dial and the movement lifts out revealing a 15 jewel Swiss made piece , and after 10 turns of the crown ran for 6 hours. The only marks are on the case which are the assay marks 375 with an H – B above and the initials JW and number 611233 , there is a 375 near the crown but I cannot find anything else as to the make. The strap looks as it may be original but I cannot confirm this . The vitals are 26 mm length , 17 mm width(19 with crown) and 7 mm thick.
Anyway that’s it for today and here are some pic’s .DW.

Very nice. I have a Bulova like that which I can't get to run reliably.

    Thanks!
