time to add a little content to the forum. Work has been getting in the way of writing a new review - started a new job in december which took a big chunk out of my spare time (no more lazy nightshifts but better pay) - haven't really been very active in any of the forums I visit on a regular basis.
So to the watch at hand - I think I already wrote a review about the "B"-version with negative displays (different time, different place) and while the features are really great the tiny negative displays were a pain to read under anything but ideal lighting conditions. A solution would have beeen to get the one with the positive displays. However - on pictures I never liked the plain vanilla AWG-M100-1 - the stealthy B-version looked so much cooler but then I came across an offer for a slightly used (in fact it looks like new) specimen for a price too good to resist. And once again - like always when it's a Casio - the watch looks much better on the wrist than on any pic I found online (which is a shame really as my bad cellphone pics will also not do it justice). At least I had a little sunshine today - so here's a 1st pic:
The timer is running in this pic as I was defrosting our freezer today which I hadn't done in two years so it took all day and I checked every half hour in order to not flood the kitchen - had nothing better to do with my day off and the wife at work all day.
But back to the watch - it looks pretty sophisticated with the chromed borders around the displays and hour markers. The steel bezel ring (which is kept in place by the resin bezel and, I guess, Casio's famous double sided sticky tape ) has a nice brushed finish. The size is the same as the G-77XX models (the straps are also interchangeable) and it has exactly the same case as the AW-590/591. This offers quite a few options for swapping parts - there is for example a nylon strap for the AW-591 which I considered buying but it's quite expensive - about half of what I paid for the whole watch. The smaller size and good looks make it the perfect G to wear with a suit (if you so desire - some think a suit and a G is a No-No but I think most members here would disagree ). The displays are small but crisp and clear and offer a good contrast. What I really like about ana-digis is the combination of "time at a glance" and all the usual features of a digital model. The hands are easy to read although I would have liked them even more if they were fully lumed and not skeletonized.
The red hour hand has a matte metallic finish while the minute hand seems to be simply painted white. Talking about the hands - for a Casio the lume is pretty decent actually. I charged it for maybe 30 sec the other night and could still read it at 6.00 a.m.
Now a look at the features:
the module is 5230 - should be the same number as the module from the AWG-M510.
Features:
- solar/atomic
- time and date
- worldtime
- 60 min stopwatch
- 100 min timer
- 5 alarms (sadly no snooze) and hourly chime
- hand moving feature which moves the hands away from the displays when adjusting the timer or alarms and you can also move them by pressing "C" for a few seconds in which case they stay in that position until you press "C" for a few seconds again.

However - I'm not really 100% convinced that this feature is really very useful as sometimes I already finished adjusting the timer or alarm and the hands are still rotating - as they don't move independently it sometimes takes a while for them to reach their "resting position".

Some more details about the features:
- the left display can either display the date or the time and it also features the indicators for the auto-LED and DST
- the right display shows the weekday and indicators for mute and hands (hand moving feature) and RCVD
- the lower display has the indicators for chime and alarm and the charging indicator - the AWG-M100 seems to charge a little slowly as none of mine ever reached "H" so far - but this might just be because I didn't wear them enough in the past.
In other modes the right display shows the mode you chose and the left one either time (in WT mode), minutes and seconds (in STW and TMR mode) or the alarm time in ALM mode.

IMO this is a really nice model and quite the bargain compared to the more expensive aviator ana-digi models. Currently very high up in the rotation.

CONS:
- no snooze
- no backlight for the displays
- stopwatch could be longer
Great write-up. I bought the B version early last year and was very disappointed when it didnt fit very well. So I sold it. Late last year I got a great deal on an AWGM510 and it fits great. Funny how two models with pretty close to the same size specs fit so differently. They do share the same module.
I love the AWG-M510 - great re-issue of a classic design. However since it's JDM I couldn't really justify the price .
your jaw would drop on the floor if you know how much greg spent on that JDM AWGM510 =)
i agree with your review... currently i only have 1 ana-digi G... its AWRM100 (non atomic version of the AWGM)
its a sweet watch and fits my wrist just fine.. the only drawback for me is the 1 hours stopwatch and not so loud alarm... also backlight on LCD would be a great and helpful..
until i have better aviator , this one would stay in the collection..
Great write up! I have one, and it is my only G-Shock.....for that reason, it has received LOADS of wear under all sorts of conditions, literally battling salt water, fresh water, many vehicle fluids, carb cleaner, drano, all sorts of hand cleaners.....and countless bangs while working on cars, lawn mowers, cutting up trees, etc....The watch is ridiculously durable!
I prefer it due to the smaller size compared to most G-Shocks, as well as the subtle styling. The analog hands also seem to give it a little more *classy* look IMHO lol. The world timer has come in handy during numerous trips as well.
