I ask because my BIL is the same way and it has turned his feet into callused, ugly, hooves.

Never with socks - that's blasphemy - and I take good care of my feet. When I am on a boat, which is often throughout the summer, you don't want to get your feet wet with socks on.

No sandals here, I've had a couple of mishaps with the lack of protection - it's either boat shoes, shoes, or athletic shoes.

Socks? With boat shoes? What's the matter with you?

Rockport makes a nice shoe. They're not the most elegant, but their shoes are solid.

How do you find the width.
Had some Minnetonkas a few years ago , not nice. Got some Sebagaos at the mo that need bedding in.

I use the Allen Edmonds version that can be resoled. Sperry and Sebago are good too.

Sperry shoes have really dropped in quality. After I had two pairs in a row with sharp edges inside the shoe (excess dried glue or something), I got a pair of Timberlands and vowed never to buy Sperry again.
