Thread: Latest clock restoration.

    Latest clock restoration.

    Hey Cats,

One of my best pieces to date.

It's a two weighter but you see three.......why? Sometimes in my experience once a pendulum based movement is reassembled it's grumpy to get going so sometimes, I'll add more weight to kick it in the ass and allow the train and even sometimes the plates to all take a set.

These old black forest clocks are just stunningly uglyful (I made that word up, feel free to use it). This is one of four I have in my collection.

Stay tuned for a really ancient piece that I'm working on, this thing is so dry and fragile I'm hoping it doesn't fall apart

    Peace,
    Preston

Not something I taught myself to do. I can try though. Give me a minute or two.

    Good work!

It look like you had to go past the hour to get the action going: miscalibration?

No it's a sloppy minute hand, either wrong size or the previous owner adjusted the clock by using the hands instead of the center locking ring, that's my guess anyway. The threaded shaft is pretty badly knarled up for some reason.

I had to make a spacer to lock the hand down with.

I plan on ordering up a multiple size cuckoo clock hand set from ebay. 6 pairs I'm told.

    I'll need them for these:

    Peace,
    Preston

I don't think it is ugly at all, just has it's own special character.

My Grandfather collects these and I guess I have gotten used to the elaborate wood carving and rustic look they have and I like it.

    Nice clock.

Way to go, Preston great job. And would you find that bird in the Black Forest?

If you come to a fork in the road; take it, and then put it down so someone else can use it.
