Daniel Wellington on a leather NATO

As you all know, I am a fan of my inexpensive but well made Daniel Wellington.

I like the simplicity of the dial and the overall aesthetics. Despite being a Miyota quartz, it's pretty well made.

The other day, I found a leather NATO-styled strap lying around (provenance unknown) and out of curiosity, I tried putting it on my DW.

I must say that the outcome is quite pleasing. The watch became significantly dressier, and looks rather good in leather.

Very nice. Give the dial some real depth with that color combo.

both straps look great with that watch (although looks like the leather is a bit narrow - great color combo though)

Nice idea, but the strap is too narrow for the lugs. If it fit, it would would great.

Are you intentionally using a smaller width leather strap?
You being usually so fastidious, I cannot think it was a mistake.
If so, what's the aesthetic justification at work here?

    Thanks, guys.

There was no aesthetic justification, just that the 20mm leather strap was too thick and was butting against the pins, making it unstable. I was afraid that it would fall off if worn, and I did not want to chance it.

I would have needed a thinner strap (which is hard to find in decent quality leather) or I could use a narrower one. I also like the fact that the narrower strap makes the dial look rather large, which is cool.

When you're wearing it, it looks pretty normal, almost Max Bill-esque.

I think the leather looks more appropriate for this style of watch.

Leather yes, but get a proper sized one. Nylon in RWB on gold was not doing it.

Some say that a loosely fitting strap will add unwanted torque on the spring bars when it twists.

I don't know how decent a leather you need, but I 've also had the same need for thin leather nato's, and found me some very serviceable thin ones in very soft leather at cheapestnatostraps dot com.

Daniel Wellington on a leather NATO

Another option to look at would be kangaroo leather straps. They are very thin and often used for nato straps.

A quick search turned up this option from natostrap.com that has a similar look and color to the one you pictured.
