Old but Crafty
(Ghost) Riders in the Sky
54 years ago today... a rock instrumental classic by the Ramrods made its way onto the top 40 charts. If you like twangy guitar and overdubbed sound effects, you'll love it.
Few things are more delightful than grandchildren fighting over your lap. ~Doug Larson

It's not. The original came out in 1948.

You're right MarkO, my dad had the older version and I had to listen to it many times. Was it Vaughn Munroe doing the '48 version?

If you come to a fork in the road; take it, and then put it down so someone else can use it.

IIRC, the B-side was Cool Water.

From a little research. .
Stan Jones was first but in 1949 alone it was also recorded by...
Burl Ives
Vaughn Monroe
Bing Crosby
Peggy Lee
Spike Jones
Gene Autry
Comes from a time when multiple artists would release the same song. Seems odd now.

OK that makes more sense. I was wondering who wrote the lyrics if the original was an instrumental.
