Yeah I don't see how that was offside. Also how does Pickford stay on the field after the challenge on van Dijk?

Agreed. Pickford should have gone, and Mané looked level to me, although my eyes and TV aren’t the best.

The only thing I can think of is that the VAR officials decided it was offside and then drew the line so it could be true.

Not only that, they didn't review the Pickford incident.

It was horrendous match officiating which overshadowed another poor defensive display. And now Van Dijk is likely out for the season and we have almost no defensive cover.

There's no such thing as level anymore. VAR has eliminated the level call.

The rule hasn’t changed, but the VAR judgement in that match certainly made it look that way.

I feel for Liverpool at the moment (did I really say that?). Losing Van Dijk to a violent foul that wasn’t even called is dreadful, and his absence will be felt in every game.

Did you guys see the Roofe goal for Rangers against Standard Liege? It has to rank up there with the all time great goals.

Also Shakhtar Donetsk B squad beating Real Madrid is just prime 2020.

Atalanta’s keeper has been chipped twice and beaten at his near post. This isn’t going to be a game he will think of fondly.

Can someone explain how that goal for Aston Villa and the goal for Bamford at Leeds were offside? VAR is so shit.

It’s not VAR, it’s the rules.

Some have assumed that it was Bamford’s lower pointing arm that was ruled offside, but it wasn’t.

In stating that the scoring part of the body is that covered by a T-shirt, and that the scoring part is relevant for offside, Bamford’s upper arm was offside. Clearly, the outcome was daft, but even the BBC’s Match of the Day pundits had to agree that it was technically correct. The rule might be better if it allowed for discretion, but then that would widen the scope for more complaints. Maybe the rule would be better if it said torso and upper shoulder rather than T-shirt area.
