I don't mean to insinuate that it is purposeful/malicious (although it often can be) but in the real world, you have a conversation and words/statements just fall out of you. They are perceived in real time and largely considered at face value. Online, you say something and get to scrutinize and evaluate it as much as you want before making it visible. Even then, you can usually go back and tweak it all you like.

Reason: editing for bigger smartness
It is now my duty to completely drain you.

And apparently I'm less bearded irl than some were expecting :-)

I guess we have time to compose our replies here, and can use thesaurus, and ting.
I, conversely don't bother with that, and probably appear smarter irl, because I am usually half-presentable (hangover days notwithstanding) and speak well.

I'm not sure if I'm any different online than I am IRL.
I am pretty much just as snarky, extroverted, and with blatant disregard for rules and structure. And I'm pretty freaking stylish, if I may say so myself.
However, I am a lot more passionate about things and rather animated in real life. I am also a lot less of a snob in real life than I probably appear online.
EDIT: Oh, I also am a lot more tired in real life, between travel and a one year old. I think someone commented the other day that my overall energy level seems to have dampened, which I suppose isn't that evident online.

On a dating site, I can understand. But in a watch forum? I mean, it's not like I'm looking to date Tom and Geoff.

I'm fairly shy and awkward in real life, especially in groups, so online communities are a preferred method of socialising for me. I probably worry too much about how things I say are perceived in both spheres, although the benefit of the internet is the edit button.
Unlike OhDark30 I am if anything MORE bearded IRL.

lol well with me have problems with spelling I some times give up on words after typing them wrong a few times and put in a word that does not have the same inpact as it would if I was talking and using the original words lol so my reply's some times take longer and people have move on with the conversation and they are like what oh I see but we have gone past that now haha

Some of the GTG folks were suprised you're a woman? I thought everyone knew that honestly.
