Hadn't planned on this one, but...

I have a few watches that just aren't getting enough wrist time, and Rob at Topper is a very adroit enabler, in a good way. He offered some very fair trade-in value and an excellent price (as usual) for a new piece, so a 1 for 3 swap has been done.

This is a watch that I have always liked, but wasn't sure about whether it would work for me. It does.

    So...

    And inside, the Senator Observer:

This is truly a gorgeous watch, classically German. Small seconds on the left, "Ab Auf" power reserve on the right (power reserve is a healthy 55 hours), wonderful big date, which they call the panorama date, above six o'clock. The finishing is marvelous. My big stalling point was the size--it's 44m (although only 12mm thick). That's bigger than anything I have, and I was concerned. I shouldn't have been--this is a good example of why even knowing the lug-to-lug, diameter and thickness doesn't give you all the info you need. In this case, the shape of the lugs, the bezel thickness and the generally perfect proportions of the watch were so comfortable, I don't have any problem with it, and it slips easily under a shirt cuff. Doesn't look like 44mm on the wrist at all, does it?

The movement is in house, beautifully finished, and typically German:

I love the hands, and the matching railroad track on the seconds subdial, as well as the lovely little leaf hand on that subdial.

The hands are also beautifully blued:

I'm extremely pleased, plus this will mean net for the year, I will end up not increasing the size of the flock. I have another on its way here, and might get one more before the year is up, but that will leave me at equilibrium. How's that for rationalization?

Stunning!! Congrats on picking up this beauty!

And with this beauty you have just acquired, both of us now have 3 similar watches (well, sort of with the GO). Mine says "hi, brother"!
