one night I dreamed I was locked in my fathers watch, with Ptolemy and twenty one ruby stars mounted on spheres and the primum mobile coiled and gleaming to the end of space and the notched spheres eating each other's rinds to the last tooth of time and the case closed - John Ciardi ...

Those are abominations. Stay as far away from them as you can. Not only is it a redial I am pretty sure I have seen them with the cheapest of cheap Chinese movements.

Yes, I think most of that discoloration is the crystal. Speaking of the crystal, I can almost imagine that I can see the anchor on it. I've never seen that bracelet on a Manhattan or those end links before though.

I clean dials carefully and sparingly. I use things that are largely free of water, like lighter fluid or Windex. Be careful with Windex, some brands are diluted with water. Ammonia based things might work. Always test first. On a Manhattan the dial extends a ways beyond view, so try an edge before proceeding. The nice thing about the Manhattan is there is no printing on the dial and that is always the most sensitive part when cleaning a dial.

I'd polish the tops of the markers by rubbing them on bond paper. Likewise the hands, if you dare Exercise care with the hands if you do.

    cool good to know

I pick up a purple sabre and well think kosher ..replacement crown thou unsign and dial is very dirty at first was wondering why but when on arrive as I unwrapped it the crystal and retaining ring fell out that was my answer but as got a lot of printing on the dial did not want to clean that off as well so was just wanting to remove the excess dirt .. seems the crystal is a replacement too and too small for it to stay on by the look of it ,,which they did not mention so have sent them a moan about them not mentioning that .. but think it's kosher not sure of the case thou as seen them in the flute edge one mainly and this case is more oval no fluting .. will do some pics when I get chance
