Not a first draft, but an actual watch, on sale to the public.

There must be a better way…

I think Eberhard had a better way with this dial. I like power reserve, but it has to integrate aesthetically as well. A designer can go symmetrical or asymmetrical. I don't mind either. I think the problems with the Frederique Constant might stem from the cluttered numbers on the sub-seconds dial, and the lack of delineation across the plain white dial. Is that porcelain or something? It looks very smooth.

Too many watches, not enough wrists.

I don't see anything wrong with that FC, layout or otherwise. (Edit: now I noticed the marker on 6 is missing, which always bugs me but isn't uncommon in watches with subdials, so still not sure about why the criticism from Alan).

Actually, if anything, the only times I’ve had springbar failures that weren’t from screwbars, it was because a rubber strap caught a shoulder of the springbar, compressed, and took the plunger with it. Ostensibly, if you’re going to rely on a watch for your life, ensuring it doesn’t fall off your wrist and get swallowed by the inky depths seems like a big plus.

But for me, I’m on land, I don’t need fixed lugs.
Realize I drove since I was a teenager. Never really trusted NATO straps. Feel this is addressing a problem about as common as being hit by a meteorite. Seems silly to me. I could see it becoming collectible if they only build a limited number. That would be the only thing that would drive me to possibly buying one.

Gotcha. Different perspectives, I guess. But I’m with you, give me a no-date dial on a regular Pelagos and I’d be happy. But as it stands, the lower price of the FXD hasn’t been lowered enough with the changes they’ve made.
