Thread: Let's talk about HEQs

    Let's talk about HEQs

Despite my love affair with mechanical watches I've always had a place in my heart for HEQ (or HAQ) watches. Super accurate quartz movements that are accurate to crazy levels fill the geek in me with joy, so given that there isn't a dedicated forum here I thought I'd start a thread.
I've yet to own a true HEQ watch, although I have long drooled over the quartz Grand Seikos and Citizen Chronomaster. My quartz Seamaster doesn't have a thermo compensated movement but is accurate to about 6 seconds a year, which is nice.
Now that the Seiko SBCM023 is out of production there don't seem to be many affordable HEQ options, but I did find a Wempe today that looks interesting.
It has an ETA movement inside with a sweeping second hand and Wempe have stuck the word Chronometer on the dial, which makes me think they've done something to assure accuracy in the movement. For €850 it looks like a pretty nice piece to me.

Certina has a few models at a reasonable price. I believe they had a COSC model. Examples (certina web)

The best HAQ I've ever had is this one:

I go on about it here:

    and here

But It's yet another small passion of mine.

As for the best HEQ, that's a much harder thing to quantify.

while there's a strong case for the movement on the left, for a whole host of reasons, in my opinion, it's got to be anything with A GP 352 movement, and this is as good an example as any:

    Didn't know Certina did them...

    How do people pronounce HEQ?
I mentally say it Heck, which may make sense of the title of the thread

Just checked the prices: 450 - 700 €. Not bad, actually.

Yes, just been looking myself and they seem like good value. Unfortunately none appeal to me style wise
