Casino Royal with Craig is my favorite Bond movie. I'm nervous about the next one.

Yes. After casino royal they have mostly been bad. No time to die - terrible title, I hate Lea Seydoux, the director has only done two titles I recognise - the Stephen dorf series of true detective which wasn't amazing I don't think, and Maniac, which was too weird for me to finish. And Anna de armas is utterly gorgeous, but not sure if she's bond material.

Overall, I've been a fan of the Craig Bond movies. Casino Royale was good, if a bit simplistic (90% of the movie is Bond Tom Cruise running or sitting at a poker table), Quantum of Solace was bad, Skyfall was excellent even if it did borrow a lot of story beats from The Dark Knight, and Spectre was underrated, in my opinion, and much more a classic-style Bond movie than the others. It wasn't perfect, but it had some really great moments.
I'm very excited for the new Bond movie. Cary Joji Fukunaga's run on the first season of True Detective was more than enough for me to have confidence in him (though there is worry when you have the small to big jump; sometimes it can result in some uncomfortable film that reflects a small part of the director and too much of the studio's vanilla wants) and he wrote and directed Beasts of No Nation, which was very highly rated. Add to that the brilliance of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's writing, it could be a very good movie. Plus, I'm a big fan of Ana de Armas and Lea Seydoux, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing them together on screen. I'm not sure Rami Malek is up to the task of being a Bond villain, but we'll see.

The Mahershala Ali/Stephen Dorff season of True Detective was actually very good, but it was the first season that Fukunaga helmed.

Same... and the rest of the Craig Bond films were only OK to worse, not in that order (in my view).

I cannot believe you guys think Casino Royale was better than Skyfall! It was a good movie, sure, but it felt a little handcuffed, being an origin story and fairly simplistic.
I mean how long was that script? 5 pages?
Bond runs after suspect
Bond continues to run
Explosion
Bond runs some more
Bond sits at a table
Bond plays poker
Bond sits naked on a chair
Bond runs
The end.

Many films are great despite silly sounding plots. Like Mrs Doubtfire, or Fave/Off. Try explaining the storyline of those. They just work.
