Ok, here is the deal: I'm having trouble sending the longines to Greg, because UPS and Fedex refuse to do it, without the original receipt. I must have it somewhere, but I don't really now exactly where. I explained it was a gift, but the problem seems to relate to the US customs. Apparently they don't accept the package if the receipts are not included. UPS does not accept personal goods, because they can't put a value on it and are considered irreplaceable. Suggestions, please.

What if you pretend you are selling the watch to Greg at a low price (maybe $150 or something) and include a receipt of your own, "selling it" to him? Describe it as an old watch needing repair.

Wholly bizarre and ridiculous. I think it must be a US thing because I’ve recently used FedEx in the UK without any mention of receipts.

It’s hard to know what to suggest.

Thanks, guys. As an individual, I can not emit a receipt myself, unless it was from a professional activity. I'm thinking on sending as a watch for repair, but even under those conditions, I'm not sure how the US customs will react.

i have always used Royal Mail with no issues - failing that to be sure if a member from our forum is travelling to USA sometime soon pass it to them and they can post it in the US

Yes, probably the Portuguese Mail is the way to go. I'll have to ask them.

I’ve posted watches to the states several times now (using U.K. Royal Mail) without a hitch or any awkward questions, so I’m not sure what might have changed , or what the difference is via Portugal.

Thanks, Mike. I'm aware of the link you mention and, as I told Peter, probably the less fancy Portuguese Mail will do the better job.

I think using the postal service is the best route , and just insure to the max you can.... box it well and securely and cross your fingers , it’s what I’ve done in the past.
