Quick Take

Continuing the expansion of their sporty aviation-themed spin-off of the Calatrava, Patek has announced a new model with a rather cool grand complication. The new 5520P Alarm Travel Time takes the aesthetic established by the 5524G and adds in a 24-hour alarm with a digital display of the alarm time. 42.2mm wide and made of platinum, this four-crown wonder has a brand new movement that adds a technically impressive and useful complication to their pilot line up.*
Initial Thoughts

When the original 5524G was released in 2015, it was a controversial offering from Patek, with its fair share of both lovers and detractors. Since then, Patek has expanded the offering with the 5524R, the 7234R, 5522A. And with that expansion, so too has the appreciation of their sporty-yet-precious pilots watches grown to find a home.*
Take a moment to soak in that dial, as there's a lot being offered in terms of data. Much like the original 5524G, we still have a second time zone via a second hand and an active AM/PM indicator for both local and home times. For the alarm (which is coordinated with local time), there is a bell-shaped alarm on/off indicator, then a digital 24-hour display for the alarm. When the alarm does go off, the mechanism uses a hammer and gong setup for the best possible sound.*
It's intricate, interestingly designed, and it's a Patek, so buckle up for the price, buttercup. The 5520P will retail for CHF 200,000, so if you want your travel time with a side of alarm and a vintage-inspired pilot style, it might be time to break the piggy bank.*
