We love art deco here at WRUK, with the Arcturus LC-1 being one of our picks of last year. Now, another Singaporean brand has come up with a 1930s-style timepiece: the Vario Empire.

Vario Empire – First Impressions

Our first impressions are good. The watch has a smart-looking dial with a lot of depth and the model with the blued hands is our favourite, giving a nice little boost of colour.* Hand-wound watches are a little less convenient than automatic self-winders – but not by much – so we like the option of a Seiko movement. The straps look the part, but it will be interesting to see how thick and supple they are, strap quality being notoriously hard to judge from images alone. The clear caseback is particularly nice with hand-wound watches as there is not a rotor blocking the view of half the movement. This one looks as good from the back as it does from the font!
Buy a Vario Empire Watch

There are just 40 of each style of the Vario Empire, and two weeks left on the Kickstarter campaign. Prices are about £179 if you grab one at the early-bird discount price – which is a really good price for the specifications on offer.

Vario have kindly offered to lend us a review sample of the Empire, so we will do our very best to get a review and video up before the end of the Kickstarter Campaign.
