Last night, while at the ceremony for The Webby Awards in Lower Manhattan (where we were honored to take home the award for Best Practices), we couldn't help but say "hi" to the illustriously educational Neil deGrasse Tyson. To our delight, Tyson, a well-known astrophysicist, TV personality, and science educator, was wearing a very special watch the 18K gold Speedmaster which Omega presented to him at the Starmus Festival in 2017. As one of three recipients of the festival's Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication, NDT's accomplishment was marked with the gift of a seriously rare gold Speedy.*
The Omega Speedmaster "Starmus," as worn by Neil deGrasse Tyson.
In solid 18k yellow gold with a black dial, this commemorative 42mm Speedmaster has a special caseback and is exclusively for those who have won the Hawking prize, and was never offered for sale. Given Neil deGrasse Tyson's position as a champion of space, time, and the sciences, we can't imagine a more appropriate watch and it was nothing short of a thrill to meet him and see the Starmus Speedy on his wrist.*
