I met up with eldest daughter and in the short period that she managed to feign interest in all things horological, my entry for this competition came up. She says I should enter the dive watch as it is pretty. So...

To be clear, this isn't the final photo as the watch needs finishing, cleaning and the bezel gluing down.

    The watch:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223485706098

    £12 + £2.99 postage =£14.99

    New Movement:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282893976425

    £2.79

    New bezel insert

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292553470149

    £1.42

    Grand total £19.99

I still think the movement is a bit boring, but the fact is that it's brand new, keeping perfect time and uses a Squale case that appears identical to the Squale 1545. More to the point, the postage for the cheapest Squale 1545 currently on ebay is more than I paid for the whole thing!

I’m between two at the moment, both Citizens as the Seiko I bought I doubt I’ll be able to get ready in time. I’ll see how the clean ups go and commit when it’s time to make a choice...

Ok, I got home from work and raced the sunset to finish the final build of the watch in time to catch the last rays and, in what I think must be a first for More For a Score:

It's a dive watch in its natural environment!

OK so my entry arrived last week. Came in at just under £20 Inc post. Needed a new battery and it sprung to life, no issues apart from an abundance of dna I'm not a vintage kinda guy so went for something I thought the wife may wear once I'm done with it

So my entry is this great condition Baoxuan watch made in china .Measuring just the right size for me (lately) 37 mm (Inc crown) and 44 mm lug to lug and 18 mm band. I have been very lucky this time as it came in a little wooden box and looks to be in nearly new condition and with a light polish and a Darlena strap was ready to go.
The beating heart of this 17 jewel beauty is a SN2 movement from the southern Chinese city of Jieyang and apparently a low cost but reliable and accurate thing with about 50 hrs of go in it. There is a link to a tear down by Watch Guy which as usual is fantastic (you can see it here: https://watchguy.co.uk/teardown-serv...watch-factory/

So far it has been quite accurate only gaining about 1 minute a day (which is just great for me)

I really like it especially the red jewel on the second hand and it would have been something i would have bought anyway, and for £16.09 all in and a spare strap i had i think it’s a bargain.

Some of my text has been borrowed from that great Chinese collector Saskwatch . Many thanks.

The brutalist aesthetics caught my eye, but mostly I liked the symbolism - a battered and faded survivor of a more optimistic age, before nationalism became the order of the day. The wear pattern shows that someone wore this as a regular watch. Maybe it was their only watch. Who can that have been, and living what kind of life? It didn’t seem right to smarten it up, so it’s as it was when it slipped out of the Jiffy bag.

It has a Slava SU 2356 movement (quartz), and it works - accurately.

Purchased from a seller in Minsk, where it was originally made, for £20.11 (incl. postage).

I’ve posted a receipt elsewhere but can’t find it right now.

I fully expect to be first round cannon fodder, but enjoyed the hunt - and even the watch.
